Cobalt is an important strategic metal, which is widely used in aerospace, mechanical industry, chemical industry, ceramic industry and alloy manufacturing due to its good physical, chemical and mechanical properties. Most of the world's cobalt is produced in the form of by-products from weathered laterite nickel ores, magmatic copper-nickel sulfide ores and sedimentary sandstone copper ores. As a major source of copper and cobalt in the world, the deposits in the Central African copper and cobalt belt are mostly oxide ores at this stage, and I would like to introduce a combined flotation-magnetic separation process to you today.

The composition of the copper-cobalt belt in Central Africa is complex, and in most cases flotation cannot recover all the cobalt. Cobalt is weakly magnetic, and it can be recovered with the magnetic separation process. The combined copper-cobalt ore flotation-magnetic separation process has become an effective means to improve the recovery of oxide ore beneficiation.

Firstly, the flotation tailings of copper and cobalt oxide ore are crushed to -0.074mm accounting for 70-90% by grinding ball mill, and pulp with concentration of 10-40% is prepared, and strong magnetic roughing is carried out by 0.8-1.2T background field strength high gradient magnetic separator to get strong magnetic roughing concentrate and strong magnetic roughing tailings, and the strong magnetic roughing tailings are the final magnetic separation tailings.

The strong magnetic roughing concentrate is strongly magnetically selected by 0.8-1.2T background field high gradient magnetic separator to get the strong magnetic selected concentrate and strong magnetic selected tailing, and the strong magnetic selected tailing is the final magnetic separation medium ore; then the strong magnetic selected concentrate is ground -0.037mm accounting for 50-80%, and it is prepared into a slurry with a concentration of 10-40%, and the weak magnetic separation is carried out by 0.08-0.15T background field high gradient magnetic separator. The weak magnetic separation concentrate and the weak magnetic separation tailing are obtained, and the weak magnetic separation concentrate is the final magnetic separation concentrate and the weak magnetic separation tailing is the final magnetic separation medium ore. This method is suitable for oxidized ore containing more magnetic materials, and can effectively improve the grade of magnetic separation concentrate.

Tailings Grinding Equipment--Ball Mill

The ball mill is a horizontal cylindrical rotating device with gear drive along the outer edge, two bins, lattice type ball mill. The material enters the first bin of the mill evenly by the feeding device through the feeding hollow shaft spiral, which has ladder liner or corrugated liner and contains steel balls of different specifications, and the centrifugal force generated by the cylinder rotation brings the steel balls to a certain height and then falls down, which produces heavy impact and grinding effect on the material. After the material reaches coarse grinding in the first bin, it enters the second bin through the single-layer partition plate, which is set with flat liner and contains steel balls to grind the material further. The powder is discharged through the discharge grate plate to complete the grinding operation.
